Fibrocystic breast condition is a disease characterized by the presence of nodules and discomfort in one or both breasts. More than 60% of women are affected by this condition, which is seen most between the ages of 30 and 50.
The Ayurvedic treatment of this disease is aimed at treating the nodules and reducing pain and discomfort. Medicines like Triphala-Guggulu, Arogya-Vardhini, Yograj-Guggulu, Chandraprabha-Vati and Punarnavadi-Guggulu can be used to reduce the size of the nodules. The choice of medicines is made according to the presentation of symptoms; more specifically, according to the size and number of nodules. Medicines like Maha-Vat-Vidhwans-Ras, Vat-Gajankush-Ras, Nirgundi (Vitex negundo), Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina), Jayphal (Myristica fragrans) and Khurasani ova (Hyoscyamus niger) can be given to reduce discomfort and pain.
Several women have acute tenderness and swelling in the breasts before menstruation and this seems to aggravate the pain of fibrocystic breast condition. Such women benefit from medicines like Punarnavadi-Qadha, Gokshuradi-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Saarivadi-Churna, Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Ikshumool (Saceharum officinarum), Deodar (Cedrus deodara), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus) and Apamarga (Achyranthus aspera). In addition, women with very irregular menstrual cycles appear to suffer more from this condition. These women usually get relief when they are given medicines to regulate the menstrual cycles. Medicines like Aloes (Aloe vera), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia) and Harmal (Paganum harmala) are used for this purpose.
Certain common hormonal problems like diabetes or thyroid dysfunction can also contribute to this condition. These problems therefore, need to be treated using appropriate medicines like Haridra (Curcuma longa), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Mamejva (Enicostemma littorale), Gudmar (Gymnema sylvester), Arogya-Vardhini, Medohar-Guggulu and Kanchnaar-Guggulu.
Caffeine restriction appears to give some benefit in fibrocystic breast condition. Since the nodules in this disease can mimic or convert into breast cancer, it is very important for women having this condition to remain under the regular care and supervision of a Gynecologist.[ad_2]
